Frequently Asked Questions
Is Puerto Del Carmen wheel chair friendly?
The truthful answer to this question will depend on where in Puerto Del Carmen you are stopping.
Matagorda is the flattest part of Puerto Del Carmen and thus the easiest for anyone in a wheel chair to get around.
The Strip (new town) can be difficult, there is a lot of work happening at the moment to try and make places of business easier access for someone in a wheel chair. Some parts have already added ramps in, such as Centro Alantico but there is still a lot of places that don't have this kind of access.
The Old Town does not have a great deal of ramps in business. Again this is changing with new laws coming into force that will make business have some form of ramp so that people in a wheel chair can access the premises.
On a whole, Puerto Del Carmen is not over friendly to wheel chair users, some of the curbs can be more than a foot tall making it impossible for people to access these. With the Island also being build on mountains/volcaneos there is a lot of steep hills.
Note: A lot of this is being imporved everyday with roads being and pavements being fixed.
